First Year Mentors 2020-2021

The mentoring system was introduced to Scoil Mhuire eleven years ago. The aim of the system is to help students in the transition from primary school to secondary school.

How the system operates:

A number of mentors are assigned to each tutor group. The group is further divided, with a number of students assigned to each mentor. The group will be coordinated by two Mentoring Prefects.

Responsibilities :

Mentors are expected to provide a good example to the rest of the student body, particularly first years.

Throughout the year, candidates should:

• Be approachable, confident and responsible.

• Be a positive role model and set a good example to all younger pupils.

• Have impeccable dress code.

• Wear their badge every day so that younger pupils can identify them.

• Liaise with year head and tutor in relation to issues arising with first year students.

• Regularly visit the first year area.

• Be available to help students on the corridor.

• Attend social nights and other events arranged for first years.

The first day at school:

Before the day:

Prepare for the student’s first day at school. This may involve coming in before the first day to get welcome packs ready.

On the day:

Assist year head and tutors. Give escorted tours of the school. Assist students with issues such as lockers, etc.

Any Fifth-Year student interested should fill in the form by clinking the link below and return by 5pm on Monday, May 18th
