a1sx2_Thumbnail1_IMG_67741.JPGCongratulations to students Luke Hodgkiss and Kealy McCabe who were presented with awards for excellence in Business in Junior Cert 2017, at a ceremony in Maynooth University on Jan 30th. The awards were presented to students from all over Ireland who achieved extremely high grades in Business in Junior Cert.

Luke and Kealy attended the ceremony together with their families in the Aula Maxima in Maynooth University. Ms Deschenes and Ms Farrell also attended the presentation ceremony receiving a certificate of achievement for the school.

The awards were presented  by Maynooth University  President,  Philip Nolan and Registrar Dr Aidan Mulkeen. Congratulations Luke and Kealy from all staff and students.

Rebecca Deasy Millar, Nathan Hackett and Jack McGrory who recently were awarded a certificate and cash prize by Fiona Casey, School Liaison Officer with Maynooth University in recognition of their excellent 5th yr Summer test results.

Each year Maynooth provides prizes for each of the local schools for students who achieved high standards in their Fifth year examinations. Well done to the recipients and keep up the good work.

a1sx2_Thumbnail1_IMG_6348-Small.JPGOn Thursday Oct 5th a presentation was made in Third Year Assembly to those students who achieved high grades in Junior Certificate 2017. A total of twenty students were presented with certificates and gift vouchers and the three top achievers, Luke Hodgkiss, Kealy McCabe and Shauna O Rourke were presented also with perpetual cups, and  with trophies to take home. Mr. Nolan congratulated all Junior Cert students and spoke of our pride in the excellent results achieved by all students this year while encouraging the current third year students to work to their potential.

a1sx2_Thumbnail1_IMG_6239-Small.JPGHuge congratulations to all students who sat the Junior Certificate examinations this year. Exceptional results were achieved by a large number of students with 20 students obtaining 3A grades or higher at Higher level.

Special congratulations to Luke Hodgkiss who attained 10 A grades at higher level and to Kealy McCabe and Shauna O Rourke who attained 9 A grades at Higher level.

Ellen Fitzpatrick, Jack Rowland and Michael Flaherty  all achieved 8 A grades at Higher level and Mila Evans, Andrew Lee Mitchell and Niamh Lawlor achieved 6 A grades at Higher level. Ailbhe Keatley and Noreen Buzenschi achieved 5 A grades at Higher level.

Well done to all students on their wonderful results.

a1sx2_Thumbnail2_IMG_6095-COLLAGE-Medium.jpgScoil Mhuire Award ceremonies were held on Monday May 22nd for Seniors and Tuesday 23rd for Juniors.

The annual award ceremonies are very much an integral part of the school calendar and are eagerly anticipated by all students. Announcements of subject nominees are made in assemblies a week prior to the awards. Over the two days a total of more than 100 awards were given rewarding all aspects of school involvement from academics to the arts, music and personal commitment to the school. As part of the ceremonies students were entertained by fellow students performing songs from this year’s musical -  Shrek, student singers and musicians, Junk Kouture entrants and the excellent school choir. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.

The winners this year were; Sophie Callanan, Mark Brien, Niamh O’Carroll and Megan Farrell. We were very pleased to have Mr John McGinnity, Admissions Officer NUI Maynooth in our school to present the awards. We were also delighted to have the parents of the award winners with us on this special occasion. Mr McGinnity shared valuable advice with all the Sixth Year students and encouraged them to strive to achieve their goals and realise their full potential. He wished all the students every success with their future endeavours.

a1sx2_GlobalTeamLeaders_GlobalTeenLeaders2016.jpgFifth year Student Harry McCann has been invited to New York City from March 4th-11th as Founder of the Digital Youth Council to participate in Three Dot Dash, which is a global initiative of the 'We Are Family Foundation'.  Three Dot Dash was designed to recognise and support the efforts of Global Teen Leaders all around the World who are actively working on projects that promote a more peaceful society by addressing issues related to basic human needs: food, water, health, shelter, safety, education and the environment.

Harry is  also being filmed as one of the key figures for a RTE series which will be airing on RTE1 in September. It is a four part series for RTE/BAI on digital literacy, led by Lord David Puttnam. It's a campaigning series which will hopefully encourage people in all walks of life and levels of technological experience to do a bit more with digital. Filming was done with Lord Puttnam, Enda Kenny among others.

Finally, Harry and Jack Cullen have launched a new education movement called #LetsTeachCode, which is aiming to bring coding into classrooms all around the World, starting with one classroom, in one country at a time. The aim over the next two years is to bring coding to 196 classrooms in 196 countries, by working with embassies, Governments, and businesses. the two students are currently in negotiations regarding this project. They have  received quite a bit of publicity for this, and featured in 6 different newspapers, RTE 2FM Dave Fanning show, KFM and others.

2015 Gaisce Awards Ceremony

Scoil Mhuire 2015 graduates Ciaran Wyse and Brendan Dowling, received their gold Gaisce President's Award at an elaborate ceremony in Dublin Castle last week. Gaisce – The President's Award is an award earned by young people between the ages of 15 and 25 for participating in several activities for a certain period. The term "gaisce" can be translated as "achievement". Students participating in the awards undertake activities under the headings of Physical Activity, Personal Skill and Community Involvement. There are three awards; bronze, silver and gold. Both Brendan and Ciaran have already achieved their Bronze and Silver awards. The award encourages young members of society to become involved in leadership roles within communities. They were supported in their challenge by teacher Ms. Vanessa Bagnall, Gaisce Co-ordinator in Scoil Mhuire who praised the work and perseverance of both students in completing their tasks so well. Congratulations to both recipients on their wonderful achievement and we wish them well in their future endeavours.

On Friday Oct 2nd all students who achieved over 500 points in Leaving Certificate 2015 and Distinction in Leaving Certificate Applied were invited back to Scoil Mhuire for a presentation to acknowledge their excellent results. College commitments meant not all students were able to attend but their hard work and success were acknowledged.

Sixteen students achieved over 500 points and two students attained distinctions in the Leaving Cert Applied.Ailbhe Garry, Sarah Houlihan, Des O Connor, Ciaran Power, Aisling Bonner, Ciaran Rogers, Rebecca Johnston, Orla Keogh, Sinead Corbett, Sinead McIntyre, Diarmuid Crowley, Conor O Flaherty, Anna McDermott, Jean McDonnell, Mike O Reilly and Rachel Malabat achieved over 500 points and Stephen McNamee and Raymond Young attained Distinctions in Leaving Certificate Applied.

Some of the students were unable to attend today because of registration for their courses. We wish all students success in their chosen pathways.

The Annual Student Award Cermanies for 2014 were held in May in Scoil Mhuire Clane. Awards were presented in many categories including academic, sports, personal development, merits, performance arts and drama.
Special guests included Hall of Fame Award Winner past student and Aide de Camp  Cmmdt. Louise Conlon, and Dublin Footballer Ger Brennan.

b2ap3_thumbnail_9731906077_03db9e62a8.jpgStudents Aoibhinn O Neill and Niall Milsom were presented with top achiever awards yesterday for achieving highest points in the school in this years, Leaving Certificate exams. Both Niall and Aoibhinn encouraged this years,students to work steadily and consistently for the year , to have a balance between study and extra curricular and to enjoy their last year of second level education. Niall achieved 580 points and begins his studies in Computer Gaming  in IT Carlow today and Aoibhinn with 560 points is pursuing a dancing career beginning her dance training course next week. We congratulate both students on their success and wish them well in the future.

Guest speaker at the Junior Awards was past student and musician Alan Brereton who urged students to follow a career in something they love doing; while at the Senior ceremony Chris O Donohue, Newstalk Journalist, encouraged the students to value both their friends and their school community.

The Cathy Walsh Award for best overall student in Junior Cert was won by Harry Quinn, third year.

The Principal’s Award went to sixth year Simon Chambers.

Best overall sixth year student was Aoibhinn O Neill who won the Peter McCreery Award.
